FAQs

Any new restricted or full-licensed driver in New Zealand is eligible to sign up for one year’s free offer of AMI Roadside Rescue, within one year of receiving their class 1 Vehicle licence. Whether you’re an AMI customer or not. AMI Roadside Rescue is also free with AMI Comprehensive car insurance.

We’ll send you an email to let you know that your free year is coming to an end, and how to purchase it for another year should you choose to. Your AMI Roadside Rescue cover will not renew automatically.

- If you have a flat battery, we’ll jumpstart your car to get you moving again. If required, we’ll deliver and fit a new battery (the battery cost is your responsibility).

- If you run out of fuel, we’ll deliver up to five litres of fuel (petrol or diesel) to you, free of charge. This benefit has a maximum use of three times per 12 month membership.

- If you have an electric vehicle and run out of battery, our electric fleet can come and deliver a fast charge to get you moving again, or tow you to the nearest charging facility.

- If you have a flat tyre, we’ll change it (where possible).

- If you break down, we can tow you to a repairer, or to the nearest safe place. If you elect to have your vehicle towed to a place of your choice, an additional charge of $3 per kilometre will apply.

- If you lock your keys in the car or find yourself locked out, we’ll help you get back into your car. Additional charges for replacement keys and locks may apply.

- Vehicles over 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes GLW). 

- Unattended vehicles. 

- Vehicle is not within easy access of a public road accessible by a two-wheel drive vehicle. 

- Vehicles that need salvage equipment. 

- Lack of access due to extreme weather such as snow, ice, flooding or slips. 

- Vehicle was being used for competition or off-road activity. 

- Vehicle was involved in an accident. 

- Towing due to vehicle being used in an illegal or unsafe way.

Yes, AMI Roadside Rescue can help you in any part of New Zealand within easy access of a public road accessible by a two-wheel drive vehicle. We have access to 1,000 vehicles across the country to send out to you.

No, any newly licensed driver in New Zealand who has passed their full or restricted NZ driver licence is eligible to sign up for one year’s free offer to AMI Roadside Rescue, within one year of receiving their class 1 vehicle licence. 

No, AMI Roadside Rescue is only equipped to help with breakdowns. If you need assistance because you’ve been in a collision or car accident, it’s best to call your insurance provider. Your insurance cover may include towing options.

Yes. Your AMI Roadside Rescue covers you, as main named driver. So, if you need roadside assistance whilst driving any vehicle, or you are a passenger in another car, we have got you covered.

*A free year of AMI Roadside Rescue is available to all drivers who have passed their restricted or full New Zealand car driver licence within the last 12 months, whether you have an insurance policy with AMI or not.

To be eligible for AMI Roadside Rescue cover your vehicle must be a motorised and roadworthy vehicle 3.5 tonnes GLW or less, which can be legally used on New Zealand public roads.
